Before they counter.
For the candidate, before they resign. Their reasons for leaving, sorted by whether more money from their current employer would change them, the questions worth answering now, and a resignation letter with the right last day.
Why are you leaving? (for each one that applies, would a counter-offer fix it?)
Your resignation letter (optional)
How it works.
A counter-offer usually changes pay, and sometimes a job title. It rarely changes the manager, the work, the company's prospects or the culture. If the reasons someone is leaving are mostly the second kind, a counter-offer may move the date they leave rather than the decision.
The tool doesn't decide that. It sorts the candidate's own answers into the reasons more money would fix and the ones it wouldn't, and gives them the questions worth answering before anyone makes an offer. Staying can be the right answer; the point is to choose it for the reasons that made them start looking.
The letter's last day uses the same rule as our start date calculator: notice runs from the day after it's given, and a month's notice ends on the same date the next month, or that month's last day. Their contract decides the length.
